Users confused by Login Screen

Description

After a series of observations of users logging in for the first time, at group sessions (computer clubs) and single individuals loggin in, I have observed that a great number (50%) or more, do not instinctivly understand the login screen. They fail to open an account on their first attempt.

I have tried several different layouts, and I think that the attached is one of the best that I have come up with. The most important part is that the Registration should be seperated from the login and both made absolutely clear as to their function. [Most importantly, the Registration Portion]

Jeff Schallenberg (schallenberg.jeff@gmail.com) from MSF has managed to make the necessary changes in the MSF theme pack to accomplish the task requestd

If this could be documented somewhere, somehow - including the logic of the particular files, and how they are related, I think it would make for a very useful document.

I Have found the following layout to be really effective, I will have a go at the CSS soon... http://www.kravis.co.uk/networkfusion/hotspots/splash.html

I did a follow up on our auth-server. To date, we have had 307 attempts to register, of which 110 failed i.e. a 30% failure rate.

  • status changed from new to closed.
  • resolution set to fixed.
  • milestone changed from Not yet assigned to a Milestone to WifiDog Auth Server 1.0.

Fixed in [1365]. the original theme tries to retain the original look, but the networkfusion theme tries to show what can be acheived.
